New Delhi, February 16 (MExN): In the latest case of racial discrimination against the northeastern people, a Manipuri girl was molested by six men while three boys from Arunachal Pradesh were severely assaulted in separate incidents in the capital city of India.
A graduate girl from Manipur was molested by 6 men on the evening of February 15 at around 7 pm at Kotla, informed the North East Support Centre & Helpline (NESC&H) in a press release issued by its spokesman, Madhu Chandra. However, Chandra stated that with the help from Manipur Students’ Association Delhi, the victim lodged an FIR at Kotla Mubarak police station against the six accused. Police arrested one of the accused and is scheduled to be produce in Patiala Court some time today, added Chandra.
Meanwhile, the NESC&H also informed that three boys from Arunachal Pradesh, who went to lodge a complaint at the local Air Tel vendor for some work, were ‘threatened by the local Air Tel vendor and beaten severely along with 25 local boys’. “The victims suffer serious injuries by knife at stomach and beaten by latten weapons like iron rode, wooden stick and bamboos. Victims are admitted in Ram Rohia Hospital,” said Madhu Chandra, the NESC&H Spokesman.
The release said that the NESC&H fact-finding team rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. However, the release expressed displeasure at the police personnel who, according to the release, were present at the spot of the incident and did not take any steps to stop the mob from beating the victims. In this regard, the NESC&H sought the intervention from police and government machineries to stop the ‘racial discrimination’ meted out to the north east people. “The law of the land should be available to all citizens, irrespective of regional and racial.
The offenders must be prosecuted as per as the law of the land. The suffering communities must be protected,” said Chandra. The NESCH further said that racial discrimination to North East people has become wide spread in national capital in recent times, especially after the Mail Today tabloid on January 28, carried a racial and vulgar story, leveling all north eastern girls as drug peddlers who offer sex.
