ULFA blames RSS for blast
| Guwahati, June 14 (IANS): The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Thursday blamed the RSS, a radical Hindu organisation, of masterminding the blast that killed two persons and wounded 42 people at a village market Wednesday.
The explosion took place at a predominantly Muslim area in village Gulutuk in Kamrup district, 50 km from here. "The blast was carried out at the behest of the RSS and was executed by the organisation's youth wing with Abhijit Sarma as the kingpin," ULFA spokesman Raju Baruah said in a statement received by IANS.
Sarma is the head of the Assam Public Works (APW), a non-government group known for its anti-ULFA stand. The APW earlier this year held an opinion poll and said more than 95 percent of the respondents rejected ULFA's demand for independence.
"Sarma is a member of RSS's youth wing," the statement said. Police earlier blamed the ULFA for the bombing. There was no immediate comment from either Sarma or the RSS.
"The RSS has already prepared a blueprint for creating communal and ethnic trouble in Assam and instructed its cadres to execute the plans. The bombing was part of their gameplan," the rebel statement said.
The ULFA has cautioned locals to be vigilant against the 'nefarious designs' of the RSS and other such groups. "The need of the hour is to be alert and vigilant against such plans," Baruah said. “We not only condemn the killing of innocent people but also strongly protest against such inhuman acts,” he said. Meanwhile, people of Hajo apprehended three persons and handed them over to police for interrogation as they were seen moving around in the town under suspicious circumstances.
